Proper pruning promotes tree health and longevity. Young trees need formative trimming or pruning to develop properly, and mature trees benefit from structural pruning to optimize health. GENERAL MAINTENANCE TREE PRUNING SERVICES

  • Crown Cleaning: Removal of defective limbs that are dead, dying, or structurally unsound. (Please note the size of dead removal specific to each tree)
  • Crown Thinning: Removal of healthy growth not benefitting the tree to increase light penetration, facilitate air movement, decrease wind resistance, reduce potential for pest infestations, and reduce weight on overly-vigorous limbs.
  • Crown Raising: Pruning of lower limbs to increase clearance over landscape, structures, utilities, street, and sidewalk. Efforts will be made to balance and provide symmetry.
  • Crown Reduction: Reducing the height or spread of a tree to coexist with adjacent trees, buildings, and utility wires involving the upper canopy. This is done through subordinate pruning methods.

SHRUB PRUNING/SHAPING SERVICES

  • Shrub Shaping: Annual/bi-annual shearing of live stems to maintain a formed appearance.
  • Shrub Containment: Annual/bi-annual removal of new growth to contain shrub and maintain a natural appearance.
  • Shrub Restoration: Removal of up to 1/3 of largest stalks, dead growth, and general reduction of healthy growth for containment and structure.

SPECIALTY PRUNING

  • Specialty pruning is utilized when a tree has been damaged by a storm, utility pruning, mechanical injury, or pest infestation. Pruning is focused on maximizing the residual leaf surface, while encouraging new branch development.
  • Removal or apical reduction of codominant stems and competing leaders, removal of poor branch attachments with included bark, and subordinate pruning of healthy branches, encouraging proper growth form.
  • Incorporating the aspects of general maintenance pruning and using only fine toothed handsaws and pruners to make proper pruning cuts on delicate ornamental trees.
  • Improving pest/disease resistance through the removal of disease inoculum, increase in sunlight for photosynthetic benefit, and pruning competing vegetation for coexistence.
  • Shearing, shaping, or training for desired effect. This is typically only done on small ornamentals where safety is not an issue as the process leads to excess suckering and poor structural development.
  • Utilizing the concepts of general maintenance with an emphasis on structural development fruit production and pest disease resistance.
